Hi Val – EPOC stands for Excess Post-exercise Oxygen Consumption and refers to the “afterburn” effect of exercise that produces large amounts of lactic acid. In simple terms, the more lactic acid a workout produces, the harder your aerobic system has to work after the training session is completed to clear out the lactic acid that was produced during the workout. This adds up to more energy expended in the hours after the workout which is great for those looking to manage their weight. In essense, EPOC means your metabolism is “revved up” after a hard workout. Hope that makes sense!
